LearnSkin is looking for students with excellent communication skills this academic year to research and write for our integrative dermatology continuing medical education website developed by a unique team of Dermatologists and Ayurvedic, Naturopathic, and Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners.
LearnSkin interns engage in scientific writing and collaborate with healthcare professionals and other students. Interns are mentored by a team of dermatologists dedicated to teaching. The internship program is a great way to learn about the field of integrative dermatology. If you’re considering a career in dermatology, the internship program will allow you to explore what the field has to offer.
Contribute to our LearnSkin Integrative Dermatology Journal Digest publication and edit articles on various integrative dermatology topics while being mentored by a member of the dermatology team

Nicole Natarelli is a first-year medical student at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. Prior to matriculation, she graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Biology and a minor in Health and Wellbeing. Throughout her undergraduate career, Nicole worked as an orthopedic clinical research assistant, dermatology scribe, and Fairfax Collegiate summer course instructor, where she taught 7-9 medical science and 9-12 chemistry. Her experiences fostered her interest in academic research and medical dermatology, and her mission is to empower patients to make healthcare decisions with evidence-based perspectives on current topics in dermatology.
I am a third year medical student at the University of South Florida hoping to match into dermatology! My love for dermatology and dermatopathology began before I entered medical school when I was working at a lab information software company that specialized in anatomic pathology. I currently work with Dr. Ken Tsai at Moffitt Cancer Center, looking at immunotherapy and prognostic indicators in Merkel Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma. I have served as the Co-President and Treasurer of USF’s Dermatology Interest Group. Through this position, I have been able to coordinate events such as: Medical Spanish for Dermatology, The How and When of Research, and a Cosmeceuticals Lunch-n-Learn.
My other research interests include paleodermatology and ancient Egyptian medical papyri (I have a Master’s in Egyptology, so I can read and translate those texts!), psychocutaneous disorders, and dermatopathology.
Throughout my childhood, my family and I relied on fast food for dinners since it was the most convenient option for my parents who worked late most evenings. Growing into my adolescent years, I continued to struggle with intermittent flare-ups of my atopic dermatitis. Like most teenagers, I noticed my unhealthy habits and how that was affecting my overall wellbeing. In an effort to optimize my health and that of my family’s, I delved into fitness, nutrition and wellness. My newfound passion led me to become a fitness trainer and obtain a graduate degree in nutrition at Columbia Institute of Human Nutrition so that I could help others attain their health goals.
As I continue on my medical school journey to become a dermatologist, I am looking forward to carrying on these principles that have motivated me to pursue a career in medicine. I want to utilize my strong foundation in exercise, diet, and wellness to provide integrative and holistic care for patients struggling with dermatologic diseases. I am passionate about education and aim to utilize this position as a LearnSkin Intern to help others expand their skin health knowledge. Above all, I am excited to work with a likeminded team that is enthusiastic about all aspects of skin health!
Stephanie Wong is a medical student at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. She graduated from UCLA in 2014 with a degree in Psychobiology. Stephanie has a strong interest in how the skin is a useful tool in medicine that reflects a person’s overall health and believes there are many factors to consider when taking care of the skin. She recognizes the importance of educating others on how environmental factors, behavior, and supplements may affect the skin and further affect overall health.
Stephanie has been involved over the past few years in working directly with the underserved communities in Southern California. She provides patient care and patient education in clinics, outreach, and health fairs. Stephanie’s goal as a future physician is to care for her patients and to teach them to care for themselves, especially in proactive ways to help prevent skin damage. By helping patients achieve the best skin health possible, it can greatly contribute to an overall healthy body.
Sarah Rigali is a first year medical student at Rosalind Franklin University. She graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. Her interest in dermatology was nurtured by working as a medical scribe after college in the Northwestern Memorial Department of Dermatology. She then spent a year helping develop wireless vital sign devices intended to improve maternal and neonatal experience in the NICU. Sarah is excited to further her dermatologic knowledge with devoted colleague
Marjon Samimi is a first-year PA-C student at UC Davis. She has a keen interest in dermatology and plans to specialize when she graduates. After graduating, Marjon plans to make Dermatology more accessible to those with Medicaid and promote diversity in skin conditions, specifically in darker skin tones. She enjoys going hiking, baking, and keeping up with the current skincare trends in her free time.
Lexie Kessler is a third year medical student at Chicago Medical School. She was born and raised in South Florida and completed her undergraduate education in Psychobiology at UCLA in 2017. Throughout her medical journey, she has enjoyed participating in a variety of educational experiences. She was a Research Associate at UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, Anatomy Teaching Assistant in the cadaver lab, Research Fellow team leader for the GPF foundation and Vice President of the Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery Interest Group at Rosalind Franklin University.
Although her interest in pursuing a career in Dermatology has been rooted since high school, her most recent personal experiences with strange and unusual cutaneous manifestations has driven her interest even further. Lexie has been, and is currently, experiencing the frustrations that many other patients endure on their paths to diagnosis and treatment. With skin being the largest and most understudied organ in the body, she hopes to further research advances in order to be a more knowledgeable and effective physician for her patients.
My name is Nicole Edmonds, and I am a fourth year medical student at the University of Virginia (UVA). I also attended UVA for college where I graduated as an Echols Scholar with a bachelor degree in Spanish. My mom is a dermatologist, so I have grown up fostering an interest in the field of dermatology. For as long as I can remember, I was leaning over her shoulder to help identify skin lesions in the latest dermatology journals or accompanying her to work to meet her patients and see this pathology in person. I am currently the president of the Dermatology Interest Group and have been involved in a multitude of research projects since starting medical school. A particular research interest of mine is health disparities in skin cancer screening and how we can use this research to improve our outreach. I am excited to be a part of the LearnSkin team!
My name is Lily Guo and I was born in Long Island, NY. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester and am pursuing my MD from Chicago Medical School. I love spending time outdoors, skiing, surfing, and on the beach
Chelsea is a first-year medical student at Rosalind Franklin University who is fascinated by skin health and eager to build a career as a dermatologist. Her passion for medicine is rooted in her love for learning and endless curiosity about how the human body works. She believes her academic success comes from her inability to merely accept information that is presented to her without thinking through why that information makes sense. Chelsea loves solving puzzles and figuring out creative solutions to problems, which is what drives her interest in research. During her undergraduate studies, she spent two years working in a developmental neurobiology lab, where she was taught how to think critically about research design and come to my own conclusions about the validity and interpretation of results presented in research articles. She spent the next three years working in two different clinical research departments, where she helped refine study protocols by giving feedback about logistical issues and practicality when it came to actually implementing protocols.
Samantha Magana is currently a first-year physician assistant (PA) student at the University of California, Davis; Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. She completed her undergraduate education at UC Davis, with her Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences and a minor in Psychology. Before starting the PA program, she worked as a medical assistant for North Pacific Dermatology in rural Humboldt County, CA. Upon successful completion of the PA program, she intends to enter dermatology and continue to help those who are underserved and undertreated.
Ryan Saal is an MD candidate at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA (anticipated graduation in 2025). For undergraduate, he attended Christopher Newport University, where he graduated with a B.S. in Biochemistry and a minor in Leadership Studies. Ryan discovered his interest in dermatology while shadowing and he worked as a medical assistant and scribe in a dermatology practice before matriculating into medical school. His research interests include dermatopathology, the application of biologics in dermatology, and dermatological conditions that affect dancers and other artists.
Chaitra is a first-year medical student. She graduated from The University of Southern California undergraduate program in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and the master’s program in Global Medicine. Raised by a mother who trained in Ayurvedic Medicine, Chaitra believes that the future of medicine will benefit from an evidence-based integrative approach to inform patient care. Chaitra is excited about writing content that will inform both healthcare providers and patients about emerging topics and developments in the field of dermatology. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, baking, and spending time with her Goldendoodle, Luca.
